Cupping therapy relaxes muscles, increases circulation, activates the lymphatic system, and calms the nervous system. It reduces muscle tension and inflammation, promotes healing, and is deeply relaxing.

What does cupping treat?

  • Pain conditions (chronic & acute)
  • Stiffness in neck/back/shoulders
  • Injuries
  • Post-surgical recovery
  • Migraines
  • Stress & Anxiety
  • Upper respiratory congestion
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Post-workout recovery

How does cupping work?

The cups are placed over the area to be treated and suction is applied, creating a vacuum that draws the tissue upward. This generates negative pressure in the tissue, which  is why it is considered a “decompression technique.” You can think of cupping as the opposite of techniques like deep tissue massage and foam rolling. Instead of compressing the muscles, the cups are pulling the tissue up and creating space.

What are the cups made of?

The cups we use at Tierra Luna Acupuncture are made from glass, silicone, or plastic, depending on your treatment needs.

What’s the difference between stationary cupping and cupping massage appointments?

During stationary cupping, the practitioner applies the cups and suction in targeted areas and leaves them to rest for several minutes. In a cupping massage the practitioner will then move the cups along muscle groups, creating a relaxing gliding effect for deeper tissue work.

Both types of cupping can be booked as stand-alone services or as an add-on to your acupuncture treatment.

Do's & Don'ts after cupping:

Everyone’s body reacts a little differently to cupping, so plan to take it easy following your cupping session. Cupping marks will usually fade within 7 days following treatment.

-Drink plenty of water for the 24 hours following cupping.

-Don’t plan any strenuous activities or exercise after your cupping treatment.

-Avoid saunas, steam rooms, and lengthy baths/showers after your cupping treatment.

-Avoid alcohol the day of your cupping treatment.

-Keep the cupped area covered after your treatment. Avoid cold, drafty weather as exposing the treated area to cold can cause the muscles to tighten up or spasm.
