How to Prepare for your treatment
A new patient health history form will be emailed to you when you schedule your first appointment. Please fill it out and return it before your appointment. If you are unable to complete it, please arrive 15-20min before your scheduled appointment time to complete the paperwork.
How long will my treatment last?
Your first session will last 60-80 minutes to allow for a comprehensive intake consultation and full acupuncture treatment. Follow-up sessions last 50 minutes.
What should I wear?
If possible, wear loose, comfortable clothing with sleeves and pant legs that can be easily rolled up to the elbow/knee. Don't worry if you're unable to wear specific clothing though. We have sheets and towels that can be used for draping, just come as you are.
Should I eat before an appointment?
It is ideal to have eaten something light before a treatment, to not be too hungry or too full. Avoid caffeine for a few hours before the session.
What should I do after my treatment?
After acupuncture, you can carry on with normal activities, but it is best to take it easy. If possible, let yourself relax for the rest of the day and avoid any high intensity workouts.
Does acupuncture hurt?
In general, acupuncture is not a painful experience and is extremely relaxing. It most often feels like a quick, small pinprick that vanishes almost instantly. Sometimes patients describe a feeling of heaviness or tightness at the needling site. Often, you won't feel anything at all.
What does acupuncture treat?
Whether you're having issues with pain, anxiety, stress, insomnia, fertility, digestion, muscle/nervous system disorders, allergies, sports injury, headaches, migraines, women's health, and more, acupuncture has been shown to improve symptoms with regular treatments.
When will I feel the effects of the treatment?
This varies, depending on the severity, type, and duration of your condition. Most of the time, patients experience an elimination or reduction of their main symptom immediately after the first treatment that will last for 1-7 days. The duration of relief generally increases with each subsequent treatment, until the issue is resolved. This is why acupuncture often works best as a series of treatments over several weeks.
Can I combine acupuncture with other therapies?
Acupuncture can be a wonderful and safe complement to other therapies. If you are receiving multiple types of therapies, it is best to consult with your providers to ensure that you are scheduling them in a way that provides maximum therapeutic benefit and that treatments aren't possibly conflicting with one another.
Will my insurance cover treatments?
You can use HSA and FSA benefits for acupuncture and cupping massage treatments.
Tierra Luna Acupuncture is an out of network provider. We will not bill your insurance directly, but we are able to supply you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement.
